Supporting Skateboarders

With nearly 95-degree weather Saturday, May 22, close to 100 local skateboarders and organizers, helped transform the Aberdeen Tennis Court into a temporary skate park. Parents, friends, volunteers and skaters all endured the sweltering heat to show their support for what some say is desperately needed in Moore County. The purpose of the event was to raise funds and awareness for a project spearheaded by local skateboarders and businessmen.

Our organization, Skaters for Moore, was established in December 2003 to help spearhead an effort to bring a non-profit skate park to the area. Our goal is to establish a safe, fun environment for skateboarders and other local youth, as well, to hang out and practice their alternative sport of choice. It is our hope that the local community will join us in our effort to make Moore County a little better for this rapidly expanding population of youngsters.

We’d like to thank all those who joined us, as well as the many volunteers who helped make this a successful fund-raiser, including the Marquez family, Sonic Drive-In, Roly Poly Sandwiches, Flowland and many others. For more information on our effort or to donate time or money, please visit our Web site at www.SkatersforMoore.org or call 695-2621.
