Foxfire Honors Two With Special Awards
At the meeting of the Foxfire Village Council on Tuesday evening, May 11, Mayor Ed Phillips announced the names of two recipients of the annual Steiner-Stempel Award. This award is presented each Spring to a Villager whose community interest and volunteer service have made Foxfire a better place in which to live. This year, for the first time, it was given to two people whose community spirit, leadership, and volunteerism are well known — Elly Harsany and Wayne Arnold.
Harsany has been active in, or chairman of many of Foxfire’s organizations, a few of which are the Foxfire Ladies Golf Association, the Garden Club, the Foxfire Property Owners’ Association, the Bridge group, the Foxfire Women’s Association and the Book Club.
Arnold served as a councilman for many years, continues as treasurer of the Foxfire Days committee, and was a board member of the Foxfire Property Owners’ Association. At the last meeting of the Association, a newly revised set of By-laws was presented, the product of many hours of his efforts.
The Steiner-Stempel Award was established two years ago, at the celebration of Foxfire’s 25th anniversary.
It honors two Foxfire residents who are no longer living — former Mayor Joe Steiner and Phil Stempel, whose contributions still influence Village life.
Harsany and Arnold each received a plaque signifying the honor, and their names have been added to a larger plaque on the wall of the Foxfire Town Hall. |
