Addor

Hoover Benymon and his associate members, choir and members from Crusade for Christ Deliverance Center in Southern Pines will be the special guests at the Addor Community Center for a building fund benefit Friday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m.

New Zion A.M.E. Zion Church will be celebrating its 124th anniversary Sunday, June 8. An all-day service is scheduled and lunch will be served around 1 p.m., after the morning worship. Then at 3 p.m., the Rev. Thelma Martin, her choir and members from the Mission Center of Carthage will be the special guests. Stella McNeill is the chairperson for this event.

Dr. Louise Jones received an award from the North Carolina branch of the NAACP at the state conference, which was held at the North Hills Hotel in Raleigh. She was honored for representing Moore County in the Mother of the Year contest and received many gifts from the conference. Dr. Jones would like to thank everyone who supported this most needed cause, for she supports civil rights for all mankind.

Fun Day will be held at the Community Center on July 4 beginning at noon. A fund-raising drawing will be held for a donation of $2. The grand prize is a summer vacation trip, second prize is $25 worth of gas, and third prize is a gift certificate for dinner for two. The drawing will begin at 4 p.m. and you do not have to be present to win. Tickets may be purchased from any board member.

Birthday wishes go out to Louise Jones and Lucille Robinson (May 23), Daisy Arnold (May 28), Harold Hubbard (May 30), Bethany Bogley and Ray Patterson (May 31), Stella Gillespie (June 1), James Edward McCants (June 2) and Mitchell Benymon (June 3).

The community was saddened to learn of the death of Hattie Florence Smith who passed away on Sunday morning. She was the sister of the Pastor Virginia King. A funeral service will be held today (Wednesday) at 4 p.m. at Jesus is King of Deliverance Church.

The community extends sympathy to Inez Morris on the death of her husband James C. Morris who passed away on Saturday. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29 at 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Addor.

Diana Brown, Ola Chavis, Stella Gillispie, Gladys Bright, Martha Harris and Corenna Nealy are all among the homebound.

Connie L. Covington, Nezzie Smith, Queen E. Patterson, Alton (Jim) Smith, Eugene McRae, Allen (Nutt) Smith and Leonard McMillian are all in nursing homes.

Kimina Chisolm has been accepted at the Babcock Graduate School of Management and the Calloway School of Business and Accounting. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Chisolm, and the granddaughter of Maggie McCrimmon.

The True Vine Temple Reasoning Center celebrated its 17th Pastor’s Anniversary for Bishop Jobe and Pastor Hattie Lathon in Fayetteville last Saturday evening. Those attending were Maggie McCrimmon, Willie D. McLeod, Arletha Steptoe, Debra Gywn, Mr. and Mrs. James Winston and Kimina Chisolm.

Curtis and Wilma Frye of Columbia, S.C., and Crystal and Curtrell Frye of Greenville, S.C., attended the Faulk Family Reunion on Sunday at the Cardinal Park in Pinebluff.

Curtis and Wilma Frye, and Louise Frye visited Johnnie C. Frye at FirstHealth Hospital on Sunday evening.

Galilee Baptist would like to thank everybody for making their friends and family day a great success.

Jackie Hargrove had two sons and a daughter visiting her from out of state for the memorial holiday. Artilus Lett, her husband, Marion, and her mother were home visiting the McLaughins.

Harold Goins and Lewis McLaughlin are in the hospital.

Mary Mason made it home safely from Jamaica.

St. Peters Missionaries will be meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30. Vocational Bible School will be held June 2 through June 6. St. Peters Ushers will be going to St. Peters in Southern Pines on Saturday night for an Ushers Anniversary.

The Committee on Chris Little and Evelyn Hart Scholarship planning meeting will be held on Saturday, May 31 at 1 p.m. at Little’s place.

The Richmond County Branch NAACP will hold its June 10 meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church.

Rising Star Chapter 584 will meet on June 3 at 7 p.m.

The Underdenominaton Union will hold its services at Pleasant Hill Church on June 29.

Pleasant Hill will celebrate its pastor’s 19th Anniversary this weekend for the Rev. C.E. Cunningham.

A birthday party for Khairee Little was held at the Chuckie Cheese in Fayetteville on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. He turned four years old. He is the son of La-Shunta Little, grandson of Ivy and Dorothy Little, great-grandson of Janet C. Little and great-great-grandson of A.B. Little. Others in attendance were La-Tasha and Kieyona Little, Janeen Taylor and Jarek Taylor.

Sympathy is extended to the Brewer family on the death of Viola Brewer who passed away on Tuesday, May 20.

Congratulations to members of Mount Pleasant Church who have graduated: Monica Joyner, Alex Mora and Mark Seagroves from Union Pines School, Stephanie Abshire and Steve Lane from college, Lauren Lane from kindergarten, and Kelly Spruill, Lauren Thompson, Skyler Wrinkler and Kelly Furr from grade school.

While working full time, Maxwell A. Sidley graduated with honors on May 15 from Central Carolina Community College with an associates degree in applied science and certification in bioprocess manufacturing technology. In May 2002, he graduated with highest honors from American River College in California with an associates in arts degree.

Hugh Faircloth is home and improving after undergoing back surgery.

Circle No. 1 Cypress Church Women will meet on Monday, June 2 at 2 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Margaret Cameron is the hostess.

Dennis Cameron of Mount Airy spent the weekend with his father, George Cameron.

Larry Ray, pastor at Body of Christ church, will be going on a mission to Africa in July.

Kenneth Bellamy is out of the hospital and is doing fine. He will be attending his son’s, Jonathan Ray, graduation from New Century Middle School. Jonathan’s mother will also be there. Jonathan will be spending the summer in Bladenboro again with his dad.

St. Mary Holiness Church will host a Family and Friends Day on June 8 at 3 p.m. and a Rainbow Tea on July 26 at 5 p.m. Betty J. Lee is the church pastor.

Pearl Norris has returned from visiting her son, Mark, in Texas.

Paul Ray made his weekly call from Ramseur to check on his mom and dad this weekend.

St. Ruth United Church of God in West End will have its Youth Day Sunday, June 1. Gladys Long of Hillsboro will be the speaker at the 11 a.m. service. Lunch will be served after the service. Then at 4 p.m., the Rev. Scott from Albermoro will speak. The pastor is Lillian Kearnes.

Terry and Naomi Robinson have a new grandson. He was born on May 25.

Ronnie Moore and his church will be at Holy Temple in Carthage on Saturday night at 7:30.

On the prayer list are Minnie Armstrong, Helen Smith, James Tyson, Joe Jackson, Bill McCrimmon and many others.
