Law School Dean Speaks to Association
“War, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Civil Rights” is the topic of a luncheon lecture to be given by Dr. Gene Nichol, Jr. Dean of the UNC-CH School of Law at the Pinehurst Members Club at noon on Saturday, May 24.
The event is sponsored by the Central Carolinas Phi Beta Kappa Association and will be available to the general public through advanced reservations. The cost is $20 per person and arrangements may be made by calling Sharon Berkshire at 215-4574.
Prior to coming to Carolina, Nichol was dean of the law school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. From 1984-1988, he was the James Gould Cutler Professor of Constitutional Law at the College of William and Mary and Director of the Institute of Bill of Rights Law. He has also taught at Oxford, Exeter and West Virginia University.
“In the context of world affairs, Dr. Nichol’s topic for the afternoon is especially important and timely,” says Voit Gilmore, association program chairman. “We are pleased to be able to make this program available to residents of the Sandhills.”
The Central Carolinas Association is comprised of area Phi Beta Kappa members who are interested in supporting the ideals of the Society by promoting scholarship, friendship, and cultural interests. Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious undergraduate honors organization and is a leading advocate for the liberal arts and sciences at the undergraduate level. |
