Maness Featured at Musical Showcase

Temple Theatre will host two nights of “More Timeless Moments in Music,” a musical showcase featuring Moore County native Barron Maness. The event is planned for Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 at 8 p.m.

Maness has performed throughout North Carolina. Audiences at the Sunrise Theatre, Owen Auditorium, and other venues have discovered the considerable talent of Maness’ mellow baritone voice. His down-home charm and familiar repertoire of songs will be enhanced on stage by the sweet harmonies of his back-up singers “The Carolina Girls” (Kim Brown, Melanie Gaines, and Maness’ sister, Pamela Maness). The David Almond Band will provide accompaniment.

Maness has been noted for his ability to choose catchy songs from many genres. A former finalist in the Contemporary Christian Music Contest in Nashville, Maness is at ease singing numbers that range from pop to country to classic rock ‘n’ roll. “More Timeless Moments in Music” is a follow up to the original “Timeless Moments in Music.” a sell-out success at the Owens Auditorium at Sandhills Community College this past February. This show will feature memorable tunes ranging from the bluesy “The Dock of the Bay” and the classic “My Girl” to tender Broadway tunes like Phantom of the Opera’s “All I Ask of You.”

These benefit performances will help fund Temple Theatre capital expenses for the 2003-2003 season. Projects include lighting board repairs, building maintenance, and a new sharkstooth scrim for the theatre. Seating is limited for both performances. Tickets are $15 each and are available by calling the Temple Theatre Box Office at (919) 774-4155 from 2 to 6 p.m., Monday-Friday. Information may also be obtained from the Temple Theatre’s website: www.templeshows.com. Temple Theatre is an air-conditioned, wheelchair accessible, 1925 art-deco style theatre located at 120 Carthage Street in historic downtown Sanford.
