The three-day sale was provided by the Women of Weymouth to raise funds contributing to the maintenance of Weymouth Center’s newly renovated facilities.
The committee worked months on the collection, pricing and set up of merchandise enhanced by the background of the Boyd House downstairs rooms and verandah. The majority of Women of Weymouth members made themselves available to help sell and cashier for the event.
The committee including Carolyn Alli, Edie Azar, Mabel Barker, Cynthia Eckard, Shirley Frei, Dorothy Gibson, Carol Hay, Martha Rowland and Carol VanZanten were on hand everyday to direct the volunteer workers.
Friend of Weymouth Mark Twilla also devoted many hours sharing his expertise about the items on sale. The few unsold articles were donated to the Weymouth Benefit Shop, which is directed by Martha Rowland. The benefit shop is located behind the house and will be open again on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. when the necessary repairs are complete.
Rowland advises that the date of reopening will appear in the newspaper.
The maintenance of Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities depends on the Friends of Weymouth membership dues, contributions, fundraisers and the vast volunteer work done in the house and gardens.
Membership entitles members to attend the concerts and author’s lectures as well as Women of Weymouth programs. The house includes the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame and carries out the traditions of the Boyd family who lived there.
