Among those attending was Barbara Blake, member of Community Presbyterian Church, who has served as moderator of the group and a member of the Coastal Carolina Presbytery for the last three years.
Blake has been involved with Presbyterian women for many years. She served on the Build-to-Serve Committee at Community Presbyterian when the fellowship hall was built. She has served on the Special Gifts Committee to furnish the fellowship hall and has worked with the Youth Fellowship, Sunday school, and Bible school over the past few years.
For the past three years, Blake has served as moderator of the Coastal Carolina group, made up of 191 churches and divided into six regions. The Presbyterian Women are organized into 18 clusters within the six regions and have Presbyterian Women enablers who work as liaisons between the Presbytery level and the local churches.
The Presbyterian Women not only work for the local churches but are also engaged in many projects to aid the community. Some of those projects include help with Meals-On-Wheels, provision of books for after-school tutoring and the Literacy Council, contributions of clothes to the Salvation Army and assistance for abused women and children.
This year the Coastal Carolina women gave 17 educational scholarships worth $11,900. The offering at the Saturday meeting went to the Presbytery Camps, Kirkwood and Monroe.
Because of their dedication and hard work, Blake and several others were awarded with Honorary Life Memberships in Presbyterian Women.
Blake’s husband, Harris, and their daughter, Joy Blake Scott of Denver, Colo., came to the spring gathering in Wilmington when Blake was honored as outgoing moderator.
