I could not help but notice none of that interest or enthusiasm was present during our battle with the Whispering Pines council —a battle that led to a lawsuit over their illegal withholding of public records from us.
Even today, in an attempt to discourage requests, the Whispering Pines council reads, at open meetings, requests submitted by “certain” residents. There is not a word of concern voiced by Moriarty. The Whispering Pines council has openly stated that the reason for the reading of these requests is to discourage and cut down on their number.
Moriarty did not see this behavior as anything worthy of comment, but during Sunshine Week this year he had an epiphany.
He wrote, “Those (public) records are yours. They belong to you. Literally, in North Carolina the public records law says that public documents ‘belong to the people.’’’ Later he pointed out, “Governments will do all they can to keep a record from you. But if you want it, fight for it. The law usually will come down on your side.”
He left out the part about living with what happens when you try.
Matthew and The Pilot were nowhere to be found during the attempt at character assassination during our fight, which in fact was their fight as well. Correction: They participated in that attempt.
We won the fight for you, Matthew, and you didn’t even have to get your hands dirty. Say, “Thank you.”
How’s that for serious?
