SPORTS BRIEFS: Patriot Booters Blank Raiders

Two goals by Katie Fields in the first 10 minutes of the match sparked the Pinecrest girls’ soccer team to a 6-0 victory at Richmond County Friday night.

Lauren Broderick, Megan Cole, Sara Cole and Latanya Cain also scored for the Patriots, now 4-1-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Southeast-ern Conference.

Contributing assists were Brittney Dishner (two), Kristen Capasso and Megan Cole. Katelyn Burwell and Molly McGahey shared the goalkeeping for the winners.

Richmond fell to 4-1 and 1-1. The Pinecrest jayvee team (5-0-2) defeated the Raiders 8-0 for its fifth straight shutout.

Both Patriot squads entertain Hoke on Monday beginning with the jayvee contest at 5:30 p.m.

Vikes Fall in Soccer

The Union Pines girls' soccer team was knocked from the undefeated ranks by a 2-1 loss at Gray's Creek Friday night.

Jennifer Waldrep scored a second half goal for the Vikings, now 6-1-1. The Bears improved to 4-1 with the non-conference win.

The Vikings will be at home on Monday facing Western Harnett at 6:30 p.m. in another non-conference match.

Mustang Girls Tie

North Moore played Flora MacDonald Academy to a 1-1 tie in non-conference girls’ soccer action Friday.

Flora MacDonald scored its goal two minutes into the contest.

Mustang goalie Carrie Smith came up big mid-way through the first half with a diving save.

Shortly after that save Katie Richardson assisted on a score by Hannah Thomas.

North Moore’s record is 1-1-2.
