To make the blood drive successful, community participation is essential. Aberdeen Primary’s goal is to collect 30 pints of blood. The school needs at least 44 donors to reach its goal.
Each day, the American Red Cross must collect 1,500 pints of blood to meet the needs of area hospitals, which continually face shortages.
A healthy person can donate six times a year, yet area donors average only one a year.
To be eligible to donate, donors should be at least 17, weigh more than 110 pounds and must be 56 days removed from their last donations.
The blood drive will start at 8 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
