The dragway, located in Richmond County on U.S. 1 a short distance past the Moore County border, will welcome IHRA stars such as two-time world champion Clay Millican, Rhonda Hartman-Smith, John Smith and Bruce Litton competing in the 320 mph Top Fuel dragsters.
Other competitors include world champion Shannon Jenkins in nitrous versus supercharged Pro Modifies and five-time world champion Mark Thomas in Funny Car. Pro Stock competition includes John Montecalvo and Carl Baker. Champions will also be crowned in seven sportsman classes.
Although the gates opened at 8 a.m. today, there is still plenty of time to take in the Night of Fire that starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
The Night of Fire not only includes qualifying in Top Fuel, Pro Modified, Pro Stock and Funny Car, it also features Bob Motz and the Original Jet Truck, Dick Rosberg’s jet-powered Funny Car, the “Cool Bus” and “Ladder No. 33” wheelstanders. The night concludes with a fireworks show.
Friday’s session includes a two-for-one ticket offer — two tickets for the price of one with the presentation of an electronic receipt for the purchase of a case of Castrol motor oil at any participating Advance Auto Parts store or at any other of the track’s retail partners.
Tickets are $30 Friday, $35 Saturday and $35 Sunday with special discounts for U.S. Military personnel — $10 off any ticket on Friday or Saturday; $20 off a Sunday admission with presentation of military identification. Tickets for children 6-12 are $5.
All tickets include parking and pit pass. Reserved seats for each day are $5 extra.
Pro qualifying begins tonight at 6:30 p.m. and continues at noon and 6:30 p.m. Saturday with eliminations in all but Top Fuel beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday. First round for the Top Fuel field will be 1 p.m. Sunday.
