Mary Ellen Foles Next Speaker In Weymouth Fine Arts Series

Mary Ellen Foles, the curator of Ancient Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, is the next speaker in the Fine Arts Series of lectures at Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities in Southern Pines.

The 2002 lecture series is titled: “Hidden Treasures of the World.”

Foles’ talk is scheduled for Sunday, March 24 at 7:15 p.m. and Monday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m. The Sunday evening lecture is preceded by a reception, with hors d’oeuvres typical of the featured country, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

The lecture series topic for this lecture, the seventh in the series, is “Behind the Scenes: The Athens Art Museum and the Archeological Digs in Greece and Egypt.”

The final lecture is “From Leonardo to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the National Gallery of Art” by Dr. Erik Denker, curator, National Gallery of Art, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., on April 7-8.

Doris Ringenbach is the chair of the Fine Arts Lecture series for 2002.
