Pat Golfers Claim First in Invitational

Justin Walters shot 34-36 — 70 and Robert Riesen 34-37 — 71 to lead Pinecrest to a first-place finish in the Scotland Spring Invitational at Scotch Meadows Golf Club on Thursday.

The Patriot’s team score of 301 bested second place Jack Britt (302) and fourth place Scotland County (319), two teams that finished ahead of them in last Tuesday’s Mid-Southeastern Conference match at Gates Four. Grimsley (314) finished third in the strong eight-team field.

Sophomore Wesley Schwenk shot 79 and junior Drew Davis shot 81 to complete the Patriot team scoring on the par-72, 6,500-yard layout.

Walters had five birdies and three bogies while fashioning his best-ever 18-hole round. The senior had four chip-ins, three for birdies and one to save a par.

The team scores of the other four teams were Mount Tabor 330, Cape Fear 334, Richmond County 343 and Laney 367.

This afternoon, Pinecrest plays in a conference match at Bayonet Country Club hosted by Hoke County.
