Weers lives and works in Texas. He is planning a trip to England and promises to show us the English countryside on his next visit to the Sandhills. The artist considers himself “neither an impressionist nor a photo-realist.” He has spent time abroad and has lived in various parts of the United States. After graduating from Texas Lutheran College, where he studied drawing and painting, Weers opted for a full-time artistic career instead of pursuing a graduate degree. Using watercolor for several years, Weers decided to broaden his scope by studying printmaking and etching. While at the Scottsdale Artists School, under the tutelage of David Leffel and Gregg Kreutz, he began to work with oil which is now his medium of choice.
Weers paints landscapes from sketches and memory. His still lifes are painstakingly arranged with props from his own collection. Weers adds: My painterly style achieves realism not with photographic detail but by careful study of light. Without light we cannot see. Without a careful understanding of light an artist is unable to paint what he sees.”
