Kindt Couple to Judge Young Musicians Festival




The Weymouth Music Committee is pleased to announce that the judges for the 18th annual Weymouth Festival for Young Musicians of Moore County will be Allen and Mary Kindt.

The event will be held at the Weymouth Center with auditions on Saturday, April 7 and Finalists Recital at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 8. The public is cordially invited to attend the Sunday recital.

Kindt is a retired professor of piano at Appalachian State University in Boone where in 1994 he received the Alumni Association’s Outstanding Teacher Awarded. He is a graduate of Curtis Institute of Music and holds degrees from the Juilliard School of Musicand the University of Michigan.

Iowa-born soprano Mary Kindt is a graduate of Indiana University where she performed extensively in the Opera Theater. She has also toured with the North Carolina Symphony as a Bryant Award winner, singing in over 30 concerts throughout the state. She is a frequent soloist with the Hickory Choral Society and the Western Piedmont Symphony. Currently, Kindt is Artist-in-Residence and a voice professor at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory.

The Weymouth Festival is open to all Moore County students from grades 4 through 12 who are currently studying an instrument or voice. The deadline for applications is today, Friday, March 23.
