Southern Pines Police Arrest Man for Possession of ‘Ecstacy’ Drug Southern Pines police made their first arrest for possession of the designer drug “Ecstasy” early Friday morning. Police reports said Patrol Officer John Warnock observed a car being driven in West Southern Pines in a manner that made him suspect the driver was intoxicated. Warnock stopped Eric Scott Coble, 24, of Rockingham on South Mechanic Street about 12:30 a.m. The police report said Coble gave Warnock permission to search the car. Warnock reportedly found a small pink pill, believed by police to be Ecstasy, with a smiling face imprinted on it. The pill was sent to the SBI laboratory for analysis. Coble was charged with one count of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, the most serious drug possession charge under North Carolina law. He was placed in the Moore County Jail under a $250 secured bond, with an April 19 court date. Ecstasy, sometimes called the “rape drug,” is allegedly an aphrodisiac.

Burglary Arrest: Residents of Boiling Springs Circle in Southern Pines reported a “suspicious vehicle” to police Wednesday night. The reports resulted in an arrest for burglary and the recovery of goods allegedly stolen from a home on the street. Responding to the calls shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Officer Tim Cameron attempted to stop a 1994 white Dodge Shadow, which fled the scene. After a chase that at times reached 90 mph along North May Street, the driver of the Dodge jumped from the car and ran along U.S. 1 near Hyland Hills, according to police reports. Cameron chased Adrian Vincent Hines, 20, of 1410 N. Ridge St., on foot and caught him, police reports say. Hines was charged with second-degree burglary, speeding to elude arrest, felony larceny after breaking and entering, stop sign violation, driving left of center, resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer, and failure to stop for a blue light and siren. Searching the ditched vehicle, Cameron found a number of items collectively valued at about $400 that had been taken from a home at 196 Boiling Springs Circle earlier that evening, police reports say. Found in Hines’ vehicle was a CD radio and remote control, a videocassette recorder and remote control, a television remote control, a glass golf necklace and a pair of gloves. The burglar damaged the screened porch of the home while breaking in, according to police, who estimated the damage at $50. Hines was placed in the Moore County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond, with a court date of April 12.

Drug Charges: A routine traffic stop by Carthage police turned into a drug bust Friday. David Clayton Harper, 24, of 125 Emily Lane, Carthage, was charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license revoked, said Carthage Police Chief Craig W. Goodnight. Goodnight said Sgt. W.E. Morley stopped Harper after observing a 1979 Pontiac being operated in an “erratic manner” on Monroe Street in the early-morning hours. Morley said Harper admitted that he did not have a driver’s license. After placing Harper under arrest, Morley asked for permission to search the vehicle and Harper complied, Goodnight reported. Officer B.A. Davis assisted with the search, and the officers reported finding less than a gram of cocaine and a smoking instrument in the vehicle. “Harper admitted to smoking the crack for the past day,” Goodnight said. Secured bond was set at $2,500. His court date is April 4.
