Historical Association Offers Book Published in 1981
The Moore County Historical Association announces that it has located several dozen copies of the out-of-print book, "Historic Buildings Inventory of Southern Pines." The Association will be selling the 97-page book at their bookshop in the Shaw House.
Written in 1981 by Ann Alexander for the town of Southern Pines, the book is a comprehensive survey of the historical houses and structures in Southern Pines. The buildings included are considered to have historical and/or architectural, state, local or national significance. Approximately 300 buildings were surveyed, most were built between the town's founding in 1887 up to the 1930s.
The book is divided into two sections. The first chapter is an illustrated local history of Southern Pines as represented by its historic architecture. The second chapter is an abbreviated inventory of Southern Pines' local landmarks and contains photographs with short descriptions of approximately two-thirds of the houses and buildings included in the survey.
The book is priced at $44.95. Used, soiled copies occasionally found on Internet auction sites usually sell for $30. Individuals interested in purchasing the book can contact the Moore County Historical Association through their Web site, www.moorehistory.com or by calling 910-692-2051. The Association is located in the Shaw House at the corner of Morganton Road and SW Broad Street in Southern Pines and is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
