Pinehurst Sets Public Hearing for Tuesday

The Pinehurst Village Council will hold a public hearing on its proposed $13.5 million budget for 2006-2007 at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Conference Room, Village Hall.

The Village Hall is at 395 Magnolia Rd. in Pinehurst.

Since the public hearing was advertised on a special meeting date, village officials have added several items to the agenda for this specially scheduled meeting.

After the public hearing adjournment, the council will enter into a special work session to hear a presentation on the solid waste collection process, a report from the village human resources director on market adjustments and pay scale amendments for employees, and to consider a resolution authorizing the village to enter into the upset bidding process on the old No. 91 fire station on Community Road.

The meeting will wind up with a closed session for the council to consult with an attorney "in order to protect the attorney-client privilege between the attorney and the village of Pinehurst," the written agenda says.

Any resident who wants to be heard on the budget may attend the public hearing and speak on any opinions and remarks to the council.

Any public remarks will be included in the record of the hearing, as will any written comments, which must be submitted 48 hours before the meeting.

The village's proposed operating budget maintains the current property tax rate of 31 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for the new fiscal year beginning July 1.

The council must adopt a budget with balanced revenues and expenditures by June 30, also setting a tax rate to bring in revenue sufficient to fund most of it.

Members of the public may read a copy of the proposed budget on weekdays at the Village Hall, between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

All council meetings are open to the public.
