North Moore to Honor Cheryl Brewer Tuesday

The North Moore High School athletic department is holding a reception to honor retiring Athletic Director Cheryl Brewer on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the school's media center.

Current and former athletes, students, faculty and members of the public are invited to attend.

Brewer has been a teacher at the school for 28 years, coaching girls' basketball, golf, tennis, volleyball and softball. Her 1982 slow-pitch softball team won the state championship. She became the athletic director in 1998.

"Cheryl has touched so many of our athletes in her 28 years," Principal Mike Tylavsky said Thursday. "And she has touched them in such a positive way. It's a nice way of going out, with people she's been around coming back to see her before she retires."

During her time as athletic director, North Moore has earned "The Sportsmanship Award" of the NCHSAA for no ejections in any athletic contests in all sports four times. The school has won the highest GPA athletic award on three occasions.

At an induction ceremony in Asheville, Brewer was recently inducted into the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame.
