"The Who's Who of the dog world will be showing up for one of the most prestigious AKC shows on the East Coast," says a spokesman.
The shows will be held at the Pinehurst Harness Track and Polo Field. This annual show draws some of the foremost dogs in the show world, with the participation of at least 130 different breeds from all over the United States.
Approximately 1,000 canines who will be prancing and strutting their stuff, trying to get the attention of the judges and ultimately winning the coveted blue ribbon.
Show Chairman Patty Pace states that spectators will be able to watch not only Sanctioned Breed Showing but also the Obedience Competitions and Rally Trials each day with Best of Show and Highest In Trial being awarded both days.
Both days begin with the individual breed competition, and the winner of each of these trials continues on to the Group Competition. Group Competition consists of seven different groups, (Sporting, Toy, Working, Herding, Non-Sporting, Terrier and Hound). The winner of each of these groups then competes for Best In Show and is awarded the coveted Blue Ribbon. Obedience Chair Cindy Hartman says that the Obedience Competition and the popular Rally Trials give a dog and his handler (most often his owner) the chance to go through their routines. These canines, showing learned skills and determination, go on in hope of winning High In Trial.
The shows begin at 8 a.m. both days and continue on until Best In Show at approximately 5 p.m. There is a parking fee of $3 per vehicle, but no admisson charge for the show.
There will be booths selling pet supplies, dog and human goodies, and a variety of other interesting booths plus several food spots for the humans. The club's educational pet information booth will be on hand to answer any dog-related questions.
Once again the club will sponsor the Microchip Clinic, which will be held at Barn 10, located right off the actual show grounds. Microchips provide pet owners with a more permanent way to I.D. their pets. This procedure allows pets to be microchipped with a HomeAgain microchip, enrolled in the American Kennel Club's Companion Animal Recovery program, and visibly identified with a yellow tag attached to their collars. The local veterinarians, who are always on site for the shows, conduct the clinic. Veterinary technicians from the Vet Tech Program at Central Carolina Community College will be assisting. Anyone caring to have their pets (both dogs and cats) properly identified can bring them to the clinic and have them micro chipped in a minute. The clinic is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the cost will be $20.
"This is an invaluable safety procedure for your pets," says a spokesman.

Participating breeders, owners and handlers will be more than willing to talk to you about their specific breed and dogs and the caring of canines in general. A club spokesman said that Moore County Kennel Club Members may be found around the grounds and are willing to help with any of your questions. If you are anticipating getting a dog, MCKC encourages you to speak to these folks and also get a good look at the various breeds.
