First Bank Helps Special Needs Adults

First Bank in Sanford has joined a community effort to ensure adults with developmental disabilities in the Lee County area have caring homes for years to come.

First Bank made a $25,000 contribution toward the construction of two Sanford-based group homes to be built and operated by Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina (BCH). BCH operates Cameron Boys Camp in Cameron.

“This gift is a testament of First Bank’s commitment to give back to the community,” says First Bank regional executive David Foushee. “We see great value in this project to benefit developmentally disabled adults and are proud to be associated with Baptist Children’s Homes.”

BCH’s Developmental Disabili-ties Ministry (DDM) provides long-term residential care and opportunities for residents to achieve goals and reach their highest level of independence in community-based, gender-specific group homes. An assessment conducted by BCH in Sanford showed there is still a major need to provide services to developmentally disabled adults.

The new BCH group homes will complement other existing residential facilities in order to help adults in need of specialized services. The community campaign to raise funds for these homes is being led by Sanford businessman Ted Lanier.

Foushee and First Bank representatives presented the check to BCH on May 16, at the bank’s new Sanford main office at 1333 Plaza Blvd. First Bank’s new location officially opens June 5.

“First Bank’s generous gift will accomplish much more than assist in the construction of two buildings,” says BCH president Michael C. Blackwell.
