Local Educator Serves As Facilitator at NCCAT

Melinda G. Gooden of Southern Pines, who teaches at Southern Middle School, recently served as a facilitator for a seminar at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.

A nationally certified teacher in the area of early childhood – young adulthood -- school counseling, Gooden assisted a group of teachers who were attending a support seminar held for candidates pursuing certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Stand-ards. She helped the candidates analyze their teaching practices as they prepared for the professional portfolio required by the national certification process.

NCCAT provides residential seminars in the art, sciences, humanities and technology for pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade public school teachers.

The seminars are offered on a year-round basis at no cost to participating teachers. They are designed to renew teachers' vitality for teaching and to equip them with new knowledge for the classroom.

Mary McDuffie is center director.

More information about NCCAT seminars is available by calling 828-293-5202, toll free at 800-922-0482 or online at www.nccat.org.
