Sandhills Best Bets: NAMI Offers Educational Seminar

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Moore County is offering a free educational seminar, "Choices in Recovery," Monday, June 5, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital Conference Center, Rooms A and B (N.C. 211 and Page Rd., Pinehurst).

This seminar will be to help patients and their families understand mental illness, its treatments, and how its treatment can lead to achieving therapeutic goals and recovery.

A light supper will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the program running from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters Compete

Second Annual Moore County Firefighters Competition fundraiser will be held Saturday, June 3, at Steve Jones Chevrolet on U.S. 15-501 in Aberdeen. Raffle tickets for a 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan and a brand new Kawasaki Mule 2X2 will be available for $5 each.

Road Race

MANNA! In Motion 5k road race will be held Saturday, June 3, starting at 9 a.m. at the corner of Ridge Street and New York Avenue, Southern Pines. Pre-registration is Friday, June 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Emmanuel Church, 340 S. Ridge St., or e-mail mannainmotion@hotmail. com.

Registration is also available at www.active.com. Race day registration opens at 7 a.m. The fee is $25 through June 3.

MANNA! is a non-profit mobile soup kitchen feeding the hungry in Moore County. Walkers are also welcome to participate.

School Play

The Sandhills Renaissance Players present the highly entertaining production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," June 8, 9, and 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunrise Theater in downtown Southern Pines.

Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5 for students.

Bluegrass Gospel

Our Saviour Lutheran Church will be hosting its third annual "Bluegrass Gospel Saturday Night," Saturday, June 3, at 6 p.m. at the church located at 1517 Luther Way, Southern Pines.

Featured are local bluegrass musicians Joe and Abby McDonald and Marvin Frye along with Our Saviour's in-house contemporary group, Dimensions of Faith.
