    BOOKMOBILE: Bookmobile services are scheduled throughout the county.

    Dial-a-Story: The Robbins Library is host to the Dial-a-Story program. Stories are available from a machine by phone for young children. Dial 948-3322 for a new story every day.

    The Given Book Shop at Olmsted Village is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It offers used books, puzzles, audios, videos, games, artwork by local artists, and Tufts Archives memorabilia for sale. All proceeds go to the library/archives.

    Southern Pines Library

    The Southern Pines Public Library is located at 170 W.     Summer Reading program is “Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds.”

    Children in grades K-5 may attend any or all of the special programs listed below. In addition, they may decide on the number of books they can read over the summer and receive a registration packet and reading log. Prizes are awarded to those who reach their goals by the program’s end. Aug. 5 is the final day to turn in reading logs.

    Read to Your Bunny story times are available for the following age groups: Infants (birth–14 mos.) on Wed. June 15 from 4:00 - 4:15 p.m., and Toddlers (15-36 mos.) on Wednesday, June 15, from 10:30-10:50 a.m.

    Red Cross

    The American Red Cross Moore County Chapter, 244 SW Broad Street, Southern Pines, announces several local opportunities to donate blood. For more information call 692-8571. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, and not have donated blood in the last 8 weeks (56 days). Age requirements also exist. There is no upper age limit.

    Bloodmobiles

  • June

    Monday, June 20, the bloodmobile will be Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Southern Pines. No appointment is necessary. The hours are from 1:30 p.m. until 6 p.m.

    Monday, June 27, the Pinehurst Rotary will serve as the next sponsor at the Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst. Hours are from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Call for an appointment at 629-8571.

    Tuesday, June 28, Sandhills Community College will host a bloodmobile from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and then from 3 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. No appointment necessary.

    Thursday, June 30, the Moore County Employees, Methodist Men’s Club and Carthage Women’s Club will sponsor a bloodmobile at the Agriculture Center in Carthage. For an appointment call 947-6362. The mobile will be at the center from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

    Classes

    The American Red Cross Moore County Chapter will be holding a child care/babysitting class on Wednesday and Thursday evening, June 14 and 15, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night.The class will be held at the Chapter House at 244 SW Broad Street in Southern Pines. Class fee is $25 which includes book, backpack and certification. Instructor: Sandy Ritter. Class limited to 20. To register please call 692-8571 ext 223.

    The Red Cross offers community First Aid and Safety Classes which include adult, infant and child CPR, first aid skills and AED. The Next Class Saturday, June 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $55 per student. Class held at Moore County Chapter House, Southern Pines.
