CLUB BRIEFS

MOAA Women

The June MOAA Women’s luncheon will be held at the Pinehurst Member’s Club on Monday, June 27, with a social hour beginning at 11:15 a.m. and luncheon served at noon. Valet parking will be available.

Guest speaker for this meeting will be Charles Broadwell, the publisher of the Fayetteville Observer and the president of the Fayetteville Publishing Co. He will gives an entertaining and informative review of the town of Fayetteville, going all the way back to Sherman’s march.

Broadwell has won statewide writing awards and is the author of “Our Century,” a book that was compiled from his series of oral history interviews. In his presentation, he will share some of the stories from this book, including interviews with former soldiers and military spouses. He will also speak about The Fayetteville Observer and its efforts to cover topics relevant to the military.

All are welcome, and anyone wishing to attend should mail a check for $15 payable to MOAA Women and send it to Bev Raffaele at 145 Surry Circle North, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

Marine Corps League

All Marines, former Marines, active and reserve, and U.S. Navy Corpsmen who served with the FMF, are invited to the monthly meeting of the Marine Corps League held at the American Legion Post No. 72, 211 East Main St., Aberdeen.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday each month. The next meeting is June 8, at 7 p.m. A special presentation will be made on the Marine Corps League’s role in disaster relief.

Longleaf Garden Club

The final meeting of the year for the Longleaf Garden Club was held on Wednesday, May 18.

The ladies enjoyed a tour of two of the members’ gardens, Jackie Moss and Lee Sherman. After the tours they met at the Whispering Pines Country Club for lunch.

A short business meeting was followed by the installation of officers for the coming year.

They are: President Mary Kilkka, Vice President Joyce Johnson, Recording Secretary Jean Dilling, Corresponding secretary Mary Cray, Treasurer Bea Weigel, and Publicity will be headed by Frances Jones.

Post-Polio Group

The Post-Polio support group meeting will be held Saturday, June 4, at 10 a.m. in conference room A at FirstHealth of the Carolinas Conference Center.

There will be a roundtable discussion and entertainment.

“Your post-polio history information sheet is due that day,” said a spokesman.

The July 2 meeting will be at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Otto Rogers.

Computer Club

The Computer Club of Seven Lakes will meet on Tuesday, June 14, at 3 p.m. in the game room next to the North Side Landowners’ Office.

The speaker will be Cathy Dudley, head of First Bank’s Internet Banking and Cash Management Service. Her presentation will be “Online Baking Made Simple.”
