Union Pines Athletes Earn All-Conference Recognition

A number of Union Pines athletes received special honors and were selected for all-conference teams announced recently by the Tri-County (3-A) Athletic Conference.

In track, B.J. McLeod of the Vikings was named sprinter of the year in the conference and teammate Brandon DiBianca was named distance runner of the year. Brittany Ray was named field events player of the year from the Viking girls’ team.

Viking girls’ soccer coach Chris Hadlock was honored as coach of the year in the conference.

The Viking boys’ and girls’ track teams and the softball team finished second in the conference. Selected by a vote of the conference coaches for those all-league teams from the Vikings were: Boys’ track: McLeod, DiBianca, Blake Boyd, Scott DiMaio, D. J. Patterson and Tyson Seitz; Girls’ track: Ray, Dominique Andrews, Natasha Bethune, Tiana Bryant, Charee Norris and Kiana Smith; Softball: Lisa Jackson, Ashley Jones, Carolyn Moore and Melody Moore.

All-conference selections from the other spring teams from the Vikings were: Girls’ soccer - Tamika Peterson, Ana Maria Quiros and Ashley Wahl; Boys’ tennis - Walker Buchan, Devon Graham, Jordan Gray, Sam Stalls and Danny Stroebel; Baseball - Glenn Moore; Boys’ golf - No selections.

Ragsdale won conference regular-season championships in baseball, boys’ tennis, girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ track and boys’ golf. Southeast Guilford finished first in softball.

Others named as the top players in the conference in their respective sports were: softball - Christy Goodwin, Southeast Guilford; girls’ soccer - Hannah Nail, Southeast Guilford; boys’ tennis - Zach Shandor, Asheboro; baseball - Ryan Kirkman, Eastern Randolph; boys’ golf - Weston Way, Eastern Randolph; Field events player of the year: boys — Chris Young, High Point Central; sprinter of the year: girls — Kiara Crutchfield, Ragsdale; distance runner of the year: girls — Laura Brentnell, Ragsdale.
