Annual Threshers’ Reunion Planned

“Come and join us for the 33rd Annual Southeast Old Threshers’ Reunion, July 2-6 at the Denton FarmPark,” said a spokesman.

The event is the largest steam, gas and antique farm machinery show held in the Southeast.

The park is located five miles southwest of Denton near NC Highways 109 and 49.

New at this year is a 2 ½ acre corn maze. The pattern will be the 1924 Eclipse steam engine, which was new at last year’s Reunion. To visit the maze the cost will be $5 per person. Partial proceeds will go to the Denton Elementary South Davidson Middle School PTO.

Congressman, Howard Coble will be speaking at the Opening Ceremonies beginning at 12 noon on Wednesday, July 2.

Some 55,000 visitors from 26 states and several foreign countries this past year enjoyed the numerous attractions and demonstrations.

Work has finally begun on the long anticipated 19th century Reid Plantation main house. Restorers are hoping to at least complete the second chimney by this year’s reunion.

Wednesday, July 2 will be the Threshers’ Queen Pageant and Talent Show and Baucom, Bibey & Blueridge of North Carolina.

Thursday, July 3 enjoy Jeanette Williams Band & Roni Stoneman (former Hee Haw Star).

Friday, July 4 see the 1997 CMA Vocal Group of the Year, Ricochet,; Sponsored by The Bob Timberlake Gallery, Lexington, NC.

Saturday, July 5 see singer, songwriter David Ball; Sponsored by Kingston Tobacco, Inc.

Sunday, July 6 enjoy the bluegrass gospel of The Issacs & The Lewis Family.

Scheduled events include: Saturday, July 5- horse pull 5:45 p.m. and auction 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 2- lawnmower pull 5:45 p.m. Thursday, July 3, Friday July 4, and Sunday, July 6- antique tractor pulls at 4:45 p.m.

Visitor to the Southeast Old Threshers’ Reunion will enjoy: a 1916 Eric Steam Shovel and Steam Crane; steam train rides; authentic country store and post office; shoe shop; 19th century tramping barn granary, blacksmith shop, smokehouse and slave kitchen; grist mill in operation; restored country church; radio museum and a log cabin filled with antiques.

They’ll see how power from steam and gas engines operates a threshing machine and baler and see how fields were once plowed with a 1914 Aultman & Taylor 30-60 tractor. Other demonstrations include; shingle mill, sawmill, horse-powered treadmill, and cotton gin, rock crusher; wood splitter; gold ore stamping machine; and giant 350hp Bates-Corliss steam engine;

Colllie lovers will like watching their favorite canines herd sheep.

The reunion also offers fun for children with a barnyard petting zoo (sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance) –featuring a Zdonk (half Zebra and half Donkey), pony rides, rock climb wall and games.

Plenty of antiques, arts and crafts, and flea market items are for sale.

Camping is available. Admission each day is $11.00 for adults, $6.00 for children under 12 and pre-school ages are free.
