Summer Day Camp

Our Saviour Lutheran Church will host a summer day camp for children entering grades 1 - 6 in the fall. This will be held July 20 -25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church located at 1517 Luther Way.. The week of games, crafts, Bible study, field trips and music will be led by college-age staff from Agape+Kure Beach Ministries. The cost for the week-long program is $75 and registration forms are available by calling the church office at 692-2662.

Dinner Buffet

Crossroads Community Church will host a gospel singing dinner buffet on Friday, June 6 at 6 p.m.

Barbecue, both chicken and pork, will be served along with all the fixings. Plates are $6.

Featured singers will be Simeon’s Promise.

The church is located at the intersection of Vass-Carthage and Niagara-Carthage Roads.

Culdee Presbyterian

On May 25, new music director and organist Gail Meeks was welcomed to the church.

All high school and college graduates were recognized during worship service on Sunday, May 25. They include Sarah Cuff (Pinecrest), Matt Powers, Elizabeth Baddour, Lauren Stone, Alston Willcox and Bryan Fields (Union Pines), Jared Homan (Heritage High School), Aaron Whitaker (Sandhills Community College), Jenny Cameron (UNC Pembroke), Jeremy Sweat (N.C. State) and Matthew Clayton (College of Charleston).

The youth are meeting at 6 p.m. each Sunday in the fellowship hall.

Clara and Bill Bailey have a new grandson: William Aidan Palmerton, born on May 22.

Car Wash, Bake Sale

Resurrection Power Ministries of Aberdeen will be having a car wash and bake sale on Saturday, June 7 in the Big Lot Parking Lot from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The proceeds will benefit the Drama and Youth Organization at Resurrection Power Ministries Christian Center.

New Hours

Starting on Sunday, May 25, the Fresh Start Church, which worships at Union Pines High School will meet on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. instead of the regular time of 9 a.m.

The church encourages visitors to arrive a little early (9:45 a.m.) and have some refreshments such as fruit, juice, bagels, donuts, and coffee. Call 947-3015 for information.

Farewell Reception

Fryes Chapel Church will host a farewell reception for the Rev. Jim and Joann Mentzer on June 8 from 3 to 5 p.m. They will be leaving the United Methodist Church of Vass and Cameron going to another church assignment.

Christian Singles

“New Beginnings” Christian Single Group will be meeting every second and fourth Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Golden Corral restaurant in Southern Pines. All ages are welcome. For information, call 295-0538.

Joy Night

Joy Night will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, 315 S. Gaines St., Southern Pines, on Sunday, June 8 beginning at 6 p.m. Special guests will be Pastor Greg Newton and his congregation from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Carthage.

Shroud Program

One of the great debates concerning the life of Jesus Christ is the Shroud of Turin. Many believe that this ancient piece of cloth is the burial cloth used to wrap the body of Christ after his death on the cross.

On Sunday, June 15, Vass United Methodist Church will offer a special slide presentation concerning the Shroud of Turin at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The guest speakers will be Dr. Allen Whanger and his wife, Mary, of Durham. For many years, the Whangers have been part of an international team of scholars examining and studying the Shroud, trying to unlock its secrets.

For more information, interested persons should contact the Rev. Jim Mentzer at 245-7665. Vass United Methodist Church is located at 111 Alma Street in Vass. From U. S. Highway 1, turn east at the stoplight onto N. C. 690, heading toward Woodlake Country Club and Lobelia. Go one block, then turn left onto Alma Street. The church will immediately be on your right.

Youth Minister Called

Michael Beach of Winston-Salem has been called to Beulah Hill Baptist Church as summer youth minister.

Beach is a rising sophomore at Appalachian State University.

He is involved with the Baptist State Union at ASU. He leads the Bible Study on Sunday and Wednesday and plans a wide range of events that include concerts, evangelism, volunteer work, Carowinds, Emerald Point, retreats and other random events.

He will be with the Youth Group until Aug 3.
