CHURCH BRIEFS: June 21, 2002

Tea Planned

Widow / Widowers Tea is set for Monday July 22 at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of Our Saviour Lutheran Church , Luther Way, Southern Pines.

All members and friends are welcome.

This is the third meeting of this group that gathers every three months. The program includes fellowship, refreshments and this month a video by the N. C. Bluebird Society. This video is taken right in the nest watching as it is built, the laying of eggs, hatching and first feedings of the fledgings.

Shabbat Service

Sandhills Jewish Congregation will hold a Shabbat service at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at the Village Chapel in Pinehurst. The guest speaker will be Dr. Henry Landsberger, retired UNC-Chapel Hill professor of sociology emeritus.

Landsberger was honored in March for his help in rebuilding the synagogue in Dresden, Germany which burned to the ground in the 1939 pogram known as Kristallnacht, the night of broken glass. His grandfather was senior rabbi there for 50 years.

Landsberger received an “order of merit” in Dresden on March 19 for “outstanding service in fostering Jewish/non-Jewish understanding.”

In 1994, soon after his retirement, Landsberger was asked by Lutheran pastor Siegfried Reimann, supported by Dresden leaders, to help rebuild the synagogue. He founded the Association for the Building of the Synagogue with Landsberger as a board member.

New Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church of Pinehurst held its first worship service on Sunday, June 9. This new church start is a mission church supported by two cosponsoring churches: First Baptist Church of Aberdeen and First Baptist Church of Southern Pines.

The Rev. David Marks is the pastor. The temporary meeting place is on 211 at the Westgate Commercial Center. The long range plans for the church will be to buy some land in Pinehurst and build a permanent worship center.

There were 69 people attending the first service. The charter Sunday is planned for June 23. If anyone is interested in learning more about this new church, you may call the church office (295-7022) or Marks at (944-7436).

Revival

Solid Rock Pentecostal Church of Christ will hold revival services through Friday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m. each evening with Shirley C. Gillis of Outreach Ministries of Jesus Christ as the speaker.

The church is located at 220 Leak Road, Jackson Springs.

Middle Cross

Middle Cross Baptist Church will be having an evening worship service featuring the music of Soul Purpose on Sunday evening, June 23 at 7 p.m.

Christian Singles

New Beginnings Christian Singles Group will be meeting every second and fourth Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Golden Corral in Southern Pines.

Aerobics Classes

Harrington Chapel FWB Church announces its “Body Temple Gospel Aerobics” class . Classes are scheduled every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:15 p.m., promptly.

“This class is designed to uplift you spiritually, mentally, and physically,” said a spokesman.

The class ncludes an 8 -10 minute warm-up, 20-40 minute aerobic session, 10-15 minute muscular conditioning session/abdominal session, and 8-10 minute cool down session. This class is scheduled to last 1 hour. The cost of this class is $15 per month.

Women’s Conference

The Pentecostal Deliverance Fellowship will host its first women’s conference titled “Women Loosed to Lead” on Saturday, June 29.

The morning and afternoon sessions will be held at Mt. Carmel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, 4901 Lemon Springs Road, Sanford. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with a fee of $20. Men are also welcome.

Concerence speakers include Janice Morrisey of Angier, Marcia Pressley of Carthage and Juanita Jenkins.

The closing session of the conference will be held Saturday evening at the Dennis Wicker Civic Center, 1801 Nash Street, Sanford. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Marian D. Hickman of Greensboro.

Hickman is a native of Cleveland, Ohio was who appinted to the pastorate in 1993 by Bishop J. Delano Ellis II. She came to North Carolina to pastor Pentecostal Church of Christ-Greensboro.

Hickman is also founder and CEO of her own company, REACH-1 CDC.

Special music will be a part of the event.

Judah Conference

The Greater Glory Church Family will host its 6th Annual National Judah Conference. All services will be held in Seven Lakes at Prayer Praise Cathedral where the pastor is Bishop Anthony Siler.

The theme for the Conference is “The Lions Have Been Loosed!!!” There will be various guest speakers from various cities and states.There will also be seminars, morning services and nightly services. The nightly services begin at 7 p.m.

Crossroads Church

Crossroads Community Church will hold a gospel singing featuring the Messengers of the Lord on Sunday, June 23 at 7 p.m.

There will be two special television tapings, one in English and one in Spanish.

Admission is free. The church is located on the corner of Carthage/Niagara and Bibey Roads.

The church will also hold a fish fry on Friday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at a cost of $6 per plate. There will be gospel music during the evening.

Gospel Singing

Emmanuel Baptist Church will host a gospel singing featuring the Harvesters on Sunday, June 23 at 7 p.m.

In Concert

Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will have Brian Free and Assurance in concert on Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the church located at 2237 Camp Easter Road, Southern Pines. For information, call 692-0992.

Revival

Turning Point Worship Center, located at 340 Commerce Ave., Southern Pines, whose motto is “A Place Where God Can Turn Your Life Around”, will be having a “Breakthrough” Revival, June 27-30.

Pastor John Gullet from Asheboro will be preaching June 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Pastor Jim Butler from Lumberton will be preaching June 29 beginning at 7 p.m. and June 30 beginning at 6 p.m.

“We are inviting everyone to come join us each night for annointed preaching, singing, praise and worship and drama,” said a spokesman.

Musical

Page Memorial United Methodist Church will have a musical and theatrical production celebrating the freedom of our country on Sunday, June 30 at 7 p.m. There will be an ice cream social afterward. For information, call 944-1093.

Beulah Hill Baptist

Vacation Bible School was held this week with approximately 90 attending. Around 100 parents and grandparents attended the commencement program.

A baptism service will be held at 7 p.m. June 23. “Teen Challenge” will participate.

Services will be held at Pinehurst Nursing Center June 23 at 2 p.m.

The evening worship service featuring the music of “Higher Ground” from Mullins, SC on June 30 at 6 p.m. Nursery and refreshments provided.
