Since Epiphany falls on Sunday, organizers say they hope that the afternoon will bring an even larger audience of participants in this retirement community of golfers and tennis players, many of whom will admit to admiring classical music and especially Handel.
Over the past several years, through the efforts of the officers and committees of Moore Vocal Arts, Inc., thousands of dollars worth of food has been distributed by the Sandhills Food Bank with the total collection taken during intermission allocated to that charity.
While founding officers are seeking an additional corps of volunteers to carry on the pilot project in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines/ Aberdeen/Carthage/Troy area, they are just as interested in spreading the idea to other parts of the country and the world by being represented on the Choral Web Ring where other choral organizations can be inspired by the Handel on Hunger project.
The Messiah project has a website, www..handelonhunger.org , for more information on how other groups can participate in their own style for their own local needs.
The local project also seeks a volunteer web designer and other volunteers. The number to call to volunteer is: (910) 295-6194.
