Engineers Conference

Professional Engineers of North Carolina is holding its annual professional development conference at Kingston Plantation, Myrtle Beach, S.C., July 11-15.

The conference will feature division and steering committee meetings, awards presentations and installation of the 2001-2002 PENC state officers. Nineteen professional development seminars will be offered, providing up to 13 contact hours for license renewal. The seminars will be open to member and non-member engineers.

Seminar topics include Introduction to the International Building Code, Industrial Energy Concepts, Understanding and Managing Risk (the planning and design phase and the construction phase), State Implementations of the International Building Code, Designing Buildings and Other Structures Near the Ocean, Electronic Commerce and the Supply Chain, Retrofitting Existing Buildings for Hurricane Resistance, Rigid vs. Flexible Pipe Systems, Online Collaboration, Standard Practice for Bracing Masonry Walls During Construction, Site Grading, Urban Roadways and Piping, Document Imaging, Changes in the Engineering Laws, Soil Nailing for Industrial Sites, and Pipe Installation and Inspection.

Social activities will include a visit to Ripley’s Aquarium, a tour of Brookline Gardens, a games and crafts night for children a beach music party and buffet, dinner at the Crab House combined with an evening at Alabama Theater, the annual PENC Recognition Banquet, and a golf tournament at Wild Wing Plantation.
