Gray’s 8-iron shot was witnessed by his wife, Joan, and Edna and Bill Ripley, his playing partners in the gold- and green-tee Sunday Supper Golf Tournament.
Art Reetz scored his second hole in one of 2001, and the third of his career, with a 9-wood on the 152-yard eighth hole of the Pines course. Paul Molloy, Stan Outland and Fred Luciw completed the foursome.
It is now all even in the Reetz household — three aces for Marlene and three for Art.
Woodlake: Jim Hunkele had a hole in one on the Palmer course, using a 3-iron on the 170-yard sixth hole.
His shot hit the back of the cup on the fly, and his playing companions called it a “truly perfect shot.”
Pat Hruska was first and Dorothy Dold was second in the Tee-to-Green Tournament.
The team of Lorraine Buracker, Pam Jones and Fern Stauffer finished first in the 3-2-1 Tournament. Donna Rowe, Judy Hammett and Dorothy Dold were second.
Lana Honeycutt, Louise Plumb, and Dee Kirschke came in first in the Best-Ball-of-the-Threesome Tournament. Angie Forge, Be Schilling and a blind draw were second.
Marcie Higgins won the Low Putts Tournament. Be Schilling was second, and Nancy Kuhary was third.
Angie Forge won the Points Tournament. Ruth Straka was second, and Joan Nestvogel was and third.
Angie Forge also won the Four-Club Tournament. Lorraine Buracker was second, and Barbara McGlenaghan was third.
Anne Fuhrmann was first with 18 putts in the Niners’ low-putts event on the front nine of the Maples Course. Dorothy Schoebel, Donna Rowe and Sharon Duffy tied with 19 putts for second place.
Pinehurst: The Men’s Golf Association played a captain’s choice tournament on the par-70 Course No. 3, scoring 10 percent of handicap.
Low net, at 16 under par, went to Mike Wallace, Dick Raynor, Gene Dalton and Mike Fitzgerald. Second low net was determined by a match of cards at 13 under par, with Bob Gable, Wood Burnell, John Regler and Mike Mazza winning over John Mattoon, David Funderburg, Jerry Weston and Bob Verzera.
Fourth through eighth places were determined on a match of cards at 12 under par. Marty Doherty, Ed Mack, Dick Waterman and Ron Hilton were fourth; Ray Geus, Tom Skidmore, Bart Slemmons and Bob Clark, fifth; Ross Jones, Curtis Wideman, Arne Lovendahl and Bob Rolman, sixth; Tom Brown, Bob Young, Bob Edens and Ed Mulcahy, seventh; Martin Gabriel, Bill Pelekoudas, Gene Ross and John Wouters, eighth.
A similar tournament was held on the par-70 Course No. 1, with 137 players participating. Low net, on a match of cards at 12 under par, went to Ken Geddes, Doug Lapins, Bill Lewis and Howard Boessneck. John Cashion, Todd Haberfield, Garrett Groscup and John Wells were second.
Carmine Lemma, Dick Liston, Ken Johnston and Bill Moore came in third. Fourth place went to Gil Valdez, Curtis Richardson, Roger West and Pat O’Reilly. Fifth place went to Frank Ragona, Joe Raguso, Jim Brunzos and Roger Johnson at 11 under par.
On a match of cards at 10 under par, Jack Breslin, Don Urello, Bill Bailey and Tom Killeen beat out Bob Dauenhauer, Lou Ferretti, Jim Bannon and Jim Harroun for sixth place.
The Silver Foils played a captain’s choice tournament on Courses No. 3 and No. 6. All winners came from Course No. 3. Katie Ryan, Debbie Smith, Nancy See and Gina Brown were first. After a match of cards at 71, Peg Kirkpatrick, Jean McMahon, Emma Howerton and Bobbie Burgess took second place. Nancy Cassidy, Louise Fitch, Margaret Peters and Louise Burton were third.
The Birdies played a best-ball-of-the-foursome tournament, throwing out the three worst holes, and scoring 90 percent of handicap. Sixty-eight members played on Course No.4 with the following results:

Class CCDD — Joyce Baumann, Rose Silvestrone, Cathy Bonadies and Dee Pegram were first with 48. Mary Ann Urda, Eileen Lowery, Marie Richmond and Evelyn Kazmer were second with 50. Three teams tied at 52, and third place, after a match of cards, went to Connie Quick, Vera Miller, Terry Rutowski and Margery Frost. Ellie Ray, Norina Schultz, Myrna Spencer and Dee Rintz were fourth. Mary A. Byrne, Mary Lou Sutter, Diane Sanford and Mary Mazza were fifth.
The Chippers played a par-fours-only event, scoring 50 percent of handicap. Twenty-four members played Course No. 2. Joan Frost won first place and Ele Wallace was second in a match of cards at 19. Mary Jane Finnegan tied Barbara Lee and matched cards at 21 for third and fourth places.
The Women’s Golf Association Played Course No. 1, with 118 members participating in a best-ball-of-the-foursome Stableford event.
Four teams tied at 49, and a match of cards gave Gerri LoFrese, Myrna Spencer, Austine White and Sandra Weir first place. Joann Breslin, Pearl Campbell, Didi Bennett and Vera Miller were second. Mary Wardrop, Linda Verzera, Louise Burton and Chris Mastaler were third. Sandy Smith, Leanne Yarborough, Roberta Cummings and Corky Howell were fourth.
Two teams tied at 48 for fifth and sixth places: Natalie Cunningham, Therese Witczak, Allison Murphy and Katie McCarthy; and Mary Claire Barry, Pamela Irwin, Dorothy Coleman and Patricia Durkee.

George Kress, Dutch Stromberg, John Cox and Craig Reaser came in first with 106. Andy Sandor, Jim Thomson, Harry Roberson and Sal Picard were second with 107. Tom Baptist, Mike Fisk, Gary Dixon and Sonny Mayo were third with 117.

Dave Smith, Tom Ciaccio, Tom Sherrington and Ed Johnson won the Sandblasters’ 3-2-1 best-ball tournament with a 51. Bob Seiver, Dick Keyse, Frank Taylor and Bill Bradley were second with 52. Bob Edwards, Will Downing, Dick Heilman and Bill Parke were third in a match of cards at 63.
Seven Lakes: Mary Ann Allen, Phyllis Heubel, Anabel Lisle and Nancy Stephens won first place with 152 in the 18-hole Stableford Team Event.
Nancy Burgoon, Jane Sundheim, Barbara Tomberlin and Lois Newsham were second with 150. In third place were Lorraine Connor, Frances Fox, Lois Schliepsick and Jan Woollard with 149. Becky Knerr, Janet Fetzer, Chris Hendershot and Ione Katc were fourth with 142.

In a Low Gross and Low Net Tournament, the first flight winners were Pat Bryan, gross 84; Barbara Walley, net 73; and Jean Williford, net 74.
Joyce Mattocks won low gross with 92 in the second flight. Jo Green and Milli Johnson tied at net 72, and Jo Ann Slayton was third at 75.
