Local Peaches Hitting Market

Semi-cling and freestone peach varieties are now available as the summertime varieties begin to ripen in the Sandhills.

One of the daiquiri connoisseurs' favorites is "Norman," a variety developed by N.C. State University. The slow browning flesh also makes this peach a favorite for canning or freezing.

The following peach varieties are available this week at the orchards and roadside markets in the Sandhills area: Gala, White Lady, Red Haven, Cary Mac, Sun Prince, Harvester, Jim Dandee, Sugar Lady and Topaz.
