Robbins Girl Selected As Finalist in Program

Shannon Marley, daughter of Ron and Deborah Marley of Robbins, has been selected as a finalist in the Pre-Teen North Carolina Scholarship and Recognition Program to be held Aug. 11-13, at the Sheraton Imperial Convention Center in Durham.

Pre-Teen North Carolina is a by-invitation-only scholarship and recognition event involving young ladies 7 to 12 years of age based on their school academic records, awards and honors won and/or their participation in outside activities.

Additionally, young ladies are invited who have been recognized publicly for their outstanding personal achievements, volunteer services, school involvement, leadership abilities or creative talents.

State finalists will be evaluated on academic achievement; volunteer service to community; school honors and activities; development of personal skills and abilities; general knowledgeability; communicative ability and on-stage acknowledgment of accomplishments.

Pre-Teen North Carolina will award more than $5,000 in educational bonds, prizes and awards.

"Shannon is very grateful to the sponsors who have enabled her to attend this event," says her mother.

Her sponsors include Goshin Dojo of Seven Lakes, Dr. William Lee Bell of Robbins, Cardinal Chemicals Inc. of Aberdeen, Nationwide Insur-ance Co. of Robbins, John L. Frye of Robbins, and her family and friends.

The Pre-Teen America Program, founded in 1990, offers wholesome family activities and currently conducts state programs in many states.

The national headquarters are located in Baton Rouge, La. Patricia Daniel is the founder and national director.

The National Charity affiliate of the Pre-Teen America Program is the Shriners Children's Hospitals.

The Pre-Teen America Program has donated more than $325,000 since 1990 to the Shriners Children's Hospitals, as well as to other previous national charity affiliates.
