The Moore County library system has a very active Bookmobile, which visits all unincorporated communities of the county.
The libraries in Pinehurst and Southern Pines remain unaffiliated for reasons known only to themselves.
We are also part of the Sandhills Regional library system, which includes Anson, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, and Richmond counties for a total of 15 libraries serving 203,000 people.
The Moore County Library Board is an advisory board to the county commissioners. The Sandhills Regional Board is compiled of members from all the county boards, and is responsible to the state. Through the Sandhills Board, we get numerous grants for books, personnel, etc., which county boards could not afford on their own.
We, in Moore County, have always had more encouragement and financial support per capita from our county commissioners than most other counties.
Now, with the “itty-bitty” library in Aberdeen — Tom Vandivier should join the Aberdeen Friends of the Library and help to enlarge the library. For help, I would refer him to Pete Madsen, our board member from Vass, where our newest library is located. Thanks to hundreds of volunteer hours spent by the Vass community, they have created a library of which they are justifiably proud.
For free access to thousands of books, I don’t think identifying yourself is a very big price to ask.
I expect to see your name among library volunteers in the future.
