Author Marjorie Hudson at Country Bookshop Tuesday
Marjorie Hudson, the author of “Searching for Virginia Dare,” which was released in paperback this spring, will discuss her book and creative writing at The Country Bookshop in downtown Southern Pines on Tuesday, July 22, at 4 p.m.
In her book Hudson writes about her quest to uncover what happened to the infant Virginia, the first English child born on American soil in what became known as the Lost Colony. The mystery surrounding the disappearance of these first English settlers has dogged historians for four centuries. Hudson undertakes her own research into the fate of the colony, exploring many stoires and legends, talking to scholars, and visiting archeological sites. Along the way, she explores her own life and her family’s story.
Hudson, who lives in Pittsboro, received her master’s in Fine Arts and creative writing from Warren Wilson College. She has published short fiction and historical essays in various publications, including Story and North Carolina Literary Review. She also conducts numerous creative writing workshops, such as “Women’s Stories—Rites of Passages,” an all-day workshop; “First 100 Pages,” for novel and memoir manuscripts in progress; and, “Creative Nonfiction,” which she offered through the North Carolina Writers Network. |
