The arrest stems from an old drug dispute, Sheriff Lane Carter said. Jeffrey Bernard Walker, 30, is accused of demanding money for drugs from two Pinehurst men, John Hines and George Washington Patterson, on Nov, 5, 2001, Carter said. When the two refused, Walker hit Patterson twice with a handgun and shot at Hines, Carter said.
Deputies arrested Walker last week and charged him with two counts of attempted murder, one inflicting serious injury.
Forgery: Southern Pines police arrested a 20-year-old woman on forgery charges.
According to the arrest warrant, Tarshea Shiann Watson forged the name of Eva McNeil on two checks to BB&T on March 20.
One of the checks was for $700, and the other was for $20. Officers charged her with two counts of forgery and uttering.
She was jailed with a $1,000 secured bond. Her first court hearing is Wednesday.
Fraud: Aberdeen police arrested a woman Tuesday on two charges of fraud and two charges of possession of stolen goods.
Anna Lyles, 37, of Aberdeen, is accused of forging two stolen money orders and passing them for money at BB&T on May 15. Lyles signed a written promise to appear in court Thursday.
