Asheboro Youth Wins Medalist Honors

Clint Smith of Asheboro shot 69-68 — 137 at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club last weekend to earn medalist honors in the Boys Division at the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina Junior Classic.

Jessica Hauser of Germantown was the girl’s champion with scores of 70-73 — 143.

The 156 contestants were competing for three berths for the boys and one for the girls at the Independent Insurance Agents of America (IIAA) national championships to be held at Northgate Country Club in Houston, Tex., August 12-16. The golfers at Mid Pines had all previously qualified for the state final at regional sites.

Perry Seifert of Southern Pines (72-73 — 145) and Robert Riesen of Pinehurst (72-74 — 146) were in contention on the final day. Both are entered in this week’s North and South Junior Amateur being held at the Pinehurst Resort.
