The Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department is now taking registration for its youth tackle football league for ages 10-12.

Age is determined as of Aug. 1, 2000 and players must weigh at least 65 pounds.

The league practices Monday through Thursday nights at Memorial Field in Southern Pines. Games will be played on Tuesday nights.

The fee is $8 for Southern Pines residents and $24 for non-residents. Youth sports insurance is available for all leagues at an additional cost. Registration runs through Aug. 11 and can be done at the recreation department located in the Campbell House on Connecticut Avenue.

Volunteer coaches are needed for the league co-sponsored by the Sandhills Optimist Club, Bill Smith Ford, Sandhill Tool & Die and Segro/Colonial Abrasive.
