Union Pines Booster Club

BY GEORGE LAWTHER, Special to The Pilot

As with other high schools in Moore County, the athletic teams at Union Pines High School have a valuable source of support for their athletic programs.

The Union Pines Athletic Booster Club, consisting of students’ parents and other volunteers, contribute in many ways to the success of the program.

They support the athletic program in the following ways: helping to outfit 24 athletic teams with uniforms and warm-up suits; providing accident insurance for varsity football players; providing catastrophic insurance for over 250 athletes and coaches; and helping to supply equipment for five athletic fields and facilities.

The club awards three scholarships to deserving seniors each year.

The club also supports the program by helping to defer the costs of officials and referees in volleyball, softball, football, soccer, basketball and baseball, as well as deputies for purposes of security and helping with the cost of sending athletic teams to conference, regional and state playoff games.

The club also sponsors an athletic awards program by purchasing trophies, plaques, and participation pins for the athletes; and providing volunteers for concessions at hundreds of games each year, including regular-season games, tournaments and playoff contests.

The three main fund-raising events each year which are conducted by the club are concessions at home contests, an ad board for merchants in the area, and a reverse auction.

The present members of the boosters are actively recruiting new members to join them for the next school year.
