Aberdeen First Baptist Takes Tourney Title

Aberdeen First Baptist is making a regular thing of winning the adult church softball league tournament crown.

This time the Aberdeen church defeated Brownson Presbyterian 15-2 to take the title, its fifth consecutive tournament championship.

Aberdeen First Baptist used the power hitting of Randy and Chris Calcutt and Eddie Bauer Jr. and the pitching of Eddie Bauer Sr., plus a solid all-around defense in adding the tournament crown to its regular-season Pines Division title.

The tournament final also featured the Southern Division regular-season winner in Brownson.

Brownson won the coin toss to determine the home and visitors and choose to be home. They choose to be the home team giving Aberdeen First Baptist first crack at the plate.

First Baptist responded with four first-inning runs. In the bottom half of the opening frame, Brownson Presbyterian went one, two, three and out. The game would continue along those lines for the rest of the five-inning title clash.

Aberdeen used its power at the plate to chalk up its 15-2 win.

Seven Lakes Baptist was voted the winner of the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award by the other teams in the league.

The adult church softball league was sponsored by the Southern Pines Recreation and Parks Department.
