Crumbaugh, Bahr Are New Book Club Co-Chairs

At the January meeting of the Foxfire Book Club, the book reviewed and discussed was Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” Members discussed not only the book itself and the author, but also the social conditions and customs of the time in which it was written.

The group’s co-chairs for the past three years have been Betty Dresher and Helen Munro, through whose efforts the club was organized. Over the past three years, 62 books have been read, reviewed and discussed. These have included classics, old and recent novels, history and mysteries.

The club’s new co-chairs are Francine Crumbaugh and Pepper Bahr. The books selected for review for the next few months are:

  • “The Lady and the Unicorn,” by Tracy Chevalier, Feb. 20;

  • “Wild Swans,” by Jung Chang, March 20;

  • “The Mists of Avalon,” by Marion Zimmer Bradley, April 17;

  • “1776,” by David McCullough May 15;

  • “Guns, Arms, and Steel,” by Jared Diamond, June 19; and

  • “Forty Signs of Rain,” by Kim Stanley Robinson, July 17.

    The book club meets in the Clubhouse at 3 p.m. on the third Monday of the month.

    There are no dues, and a book swap takes place at each meeting.
