Blake’s Wife Hurt in Accident

BY MATTHEW MORIARTY: Staff Writer

State Sen. Harris Blake’s wife, Barbara, is still hospitalized and recovering from what her husband called “a freak accident.”

She suffered a dislocated left shoulder and a broken right wrist in a single-vehicle accident when her own vehicle struck her, Harris Blake said.

The accident happened Jan. 6. She dropped a receipt after going to the ATM at BB&T near the Pinehurst Traffic Circle, Blake said. She stopped the car a little beyond the ATM drive-through and got out to pick up the receipt.

The car began to roll backward and the door knocked her to the ground. The car stopped when the vehicle door struck the ATM. She was able to get up and go into the bank for help, her husband said.

“It could have been a real tragedy,” he said.

She is recovering well.

“She’s in great shape,” he said. “If you knew my wife... [laughs] She’s had to readjust for a few days to not having to be in charge.”

The doctors think that she’ll make a complete recovery, Blake said. “The great thing is that Barbara’s fine.”
