Gold Medalist Speaks at Banquet
Olympic gold medalist David O’Connor was the keynote speaker at the N.C. Hunter and Jumper Association annual banquet at the Pinehurst Hotel Jan. 9.
“I was very impressed,” said newly elected NCHJA board member Parker Minchin of Southern Pines. “He (O’Connor) is quite well spoken and has a great sense of humor. He spoke about the fact that the horse disciplines were going to have to get away from (the attitude of) ‘You all do this, and you all are crazy,’ and get back to trying to teach young people to be horsemen instead of just teaching them how to compete.
“He also spoke about his interactions with the TV people in trying to get Rolex on TV. The animal program with the highest rating (by a long shot) is the Westminster Dog Show. Rolex has been renewed by NBC and they will offer some of the World Cup Show Jumping from Las Vegas, so we are making some progress.” |
