Kathryn Kelly of West, a twelfth grade teacher at Union Pines High School, recently attended a seminar at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
She participated in “Support Seminar for Teachers Pursuing National Board Certification,” from Oct. 18 to Oct. 22, conducted by Mary Kay Cooley, center fellow.
The seminar was supported with funding from State Farm Insurance Companies.
Five educators from Vass-Lakeview Elementary School recently attended the Teacher Scholars in Residence seminar at the NCCAT. They are Principal George Hancock and teachers Audra Penrod, Paula Garrison, Bridget Johnson and Steve Johnson.
NCCAT was created by the state legislature in 1985 to advance the art and profession of teaching in North Carolina.
The center’s main focus is a year-round series of residential seminars in the arts, humanities, sciences, technology, communication, and health and fitness for pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade teachers. NCCAT’s emphasis is on teacher renewal that directly impacts retention, professional growth and competence.
The center’s research-based programming is designed to renew teachers’ vitality and enthusiasm for the teaching profession and to equip them with new knowledge for the classroom. Mary McDuffie is center director.
