The Falcon girls, sparked by their best first quarter of the season, swamped the visitors 62-29 in the opener of the doubleheader.
Cowherd scored six points as the Falcons took a 15-7 first-quarter lead, while teammate Philip Kelly benefited from some excellent passing to score a game-high 20 points in the boys’ win. Kelly, scoring most of his points from inside on 10 of 16 shooting, ended the evening with a double-double, as he also had 14 of the Falcons’ 58 rebound. Bo Howe joined the Falcons’ double-double club with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Cowherd, who finished with 10 points, had three assists, as did teammates Simon Cagle and Bryan Thompson.
In the girls’ contest, eighth-grader Margaret Cross exploded for 21 points, including four from behind the three-point line, to lead the Falcons to the win. Kristin Steward had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the girls. She also added four blocked shots on the defensive end.
The biggest plus for the Falcons was taking a 24-8 lead in the first quarter.
