Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are needed. Volunteers do not have to be members of AARP to volunteer nor do you have to be a retiree.
Tax counselors receive free training and become IRS certified by passing the IRS exam. They help customers one on one at various tax sites. Volunteers can learn new skills and get involved in the community.
Taxes are prepared with software and free e-filing is available.
Volunteers are asked to make a minimum commitment of 40 hours over the 10-week season, beginning Feb. 1. Expense reimbursement is provided for some program-related, out-of-pocket expenses.
For more information about volunteering with the AARP tax-Aide program, contact District Coordinator Burt Ozment at 215-8860, or toll-free at 1-888-227-7669.
