The concert is the Black History Month presentation and highlights African music and culture.
As a multi-instrumentalist and composer, Alex Weiss, the group’s leader, draws inspiration from the musical styles of Africa, South America as well as American blues and jazz and gives performances which are full of intricate and playful music that keeps audiences of all ages spellbound, says UNCP’s Gail Morfesis.
In 1990, Weiss was awarded an Emerging Artist Grant and in 1994 he won a North Carolina Arts Council Songwriters Fellowship. He has toured throughout the South and in Europe and has produced several recordings on the Silent Dayze Music label.
The concert will be held at the Moore Hall Auditorium on the University of North Carolina at Pembroke campus.
A lecture/demonstration follows beginnig at 11:30 a.m.
Both presentations are free and open to the public.
