Victory Baptist Begins Year

Victory Baptist held its first business meeting of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Several items were discussed including a committee that will be working on projections for Victory for the next five years.

Renovation has begun in the basement of the church as several members as well as the pastor have assisted with this project.

The Ladies WMU held its first meeting of the new year on Monday, Jan. 6 in the fellowship hall. The ladies will focus on different missions for the next several months. This month they are sponsoring a drive to help the Friend To Friend Organization. A box has been set up in the vestibule of the church for anyone that would like to donate. Any toiletry item and/or personal item is suggested as this organization helps ladies and children that are in abusive situations. The month of February the ladies will be sending cookies and/or cakes to the Cameron Boys Home in observance of birthdays and the month of March old/new eye glasses will be collected to be distributed to the Lion’s Club. Patty Chriscoe will host the next meeting at her home on Monday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.

The Rev. Chaney is teaching a class, ‘Experiencing God,’ on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. Classes began Jan. 9 and will continue through the month of March.

The Max A. Gilmore Scholarship Committee met this past Wednesday, Jan. 15. Committee members are: Bobby Lake, Mac McKenzie, Kathy Smith, and Nancy Thompson.

Baptist Men’s Day will be held at Victory on Sunday, Jan. 26. The men will be lay speakers for the day and an all–male choir will present special music during the worship hour. Breakfast will be served for all the men in the church on that day.

Pastor Appreciation Day will be Sunday, Feb. 2.

Plans are being made for Victory’s annual Valentine Party which is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. All couples of the church are invited to attend.

Terry Bryant was deacon of the week this past Sunday and Ernie Bouton will serve as deacon of the week this Sunday. These men assist Rev. Chaney with the morning service.

It has been announced that Wednesday night Bible Study will begin at 7 p.m. for the remainder of the winter and classes are held for all ages.
