But, when the Southeast Guilford defender approached, he dribbled past him toward the basket and pulled up with a 10-foot leaner that put the home team ahead by the score of 58-56 with six seconds left.
The Vikings survived a last-second rush down the court by the Falcons’ Jon Murphy when his layup and attempted follow-up were both blocked. It was the second win in the Tri-County Conference for the Vikings.
“It was a super shot,” said Union Pines coach Bobby Purvis of the Frye effort. “I don’t think we played as well as Tuesday (in a loss to Trinity). But we made enough plays to win.”
The victory improved the Vikings to 2-3 in the conference and 5-9 overall. Southeast Guilford remains winless at 0-14.
In the opener, the Viking girls lost a 73-59 decision to the fifth-ranked and now 14-0 Falcons.
